Knock it Down: Vampirism 101, Part I

We went to a club across the street. It was pretty small and Christian explained that it had an alleyway located right next door. He went on to tell me something about how I needed to start thinking about this stuff ahead of time blah, blah, blah…
“So what do I need to do? I mean, now that we’re here, I’m not sure I really want to eat someone.”
“I told you, that’s zombies. Not vampires. You’re not going to ‘eat’ anyone.” He sighed before continuing, “Walk in, find a mark–make sure it’s female–and then come and tell me. Simple, right?”
“I guess so. Why a female?”
“I’ll explain that later. Come on.”

So I did has the vampire said. I walked in, and I had a seat. For awhile I wasn’t really looking for anyone. I felt weird. This was all so surreal. Could I really do this? It all seemed so… wrong. And then I saw her, with her ugly blue hair and less-than-desirable features; the wench that ruined my beautiful hair. Suddenly all thoughts of wrongess were replaced by those of sweet, sweet revenge. Turn my hair pink, will you? Ha, HA!

I found Christian pretty quickly. I guess I have a vampire radar or something now. I explained to him that I found my mark and pointed at her. He gave me a funny look.
“Your hairdresser?”
“Former hairdresser.”

“All right, Pinky. Go out to the alley and wait. I’ll be there with your former hairdresser in a minute.”
I glared at him as I stomped out.

As I waited out in the alley, I wondered idly if this is what the vampires that attacked me had done? The girl waited outside while the male lured some hapless, idiot female to her doom. A cold shiver ran down my spine. I wouldn’t turn my former hairdresser, would I? God knows I don’t want to be with her for an eternity.

Everything was kind of blurred after that. Just as he promised he would, Christian joined me with my unwitting former hairdresser following close behind. She looked lost. Her eyes were clouded. Did I look like that? No, I realized something was wrong long before that. Geeze, what an idiot.
As soon as she got close enough, instinct took over. I don’t know whether or not I’m proud to say what happened next. I don’t remember it. I just remember hearing her heart beat; like a loud, thumping bass in my head.

Christian stopped me before I did something stupid. I couldn’t help it. It was the heartbeat. Listening to it’s pace lessen with each passing second. It was like a drug. The reality of what happened didn’t even hit me until later. I had drank someone’s blood and left them lying in an alley. Is this what my life is going to be like?
My life might have been pretty boring before, but this a little more than I can handle. Sure, revenge is sweet… but what happens when I run out of people who deserve a good neck biting? What happens when I have to start hurting people who don’t deserve it?
…Good thing a lot of people have pissed me off in this relatively short life of mine. Karma is awesome.
