Knock it Down

“O-ohhh… my God… it’s… it’s true? You’re… vampires!”

Her eyes rolled back into her head and she hit the floor with a thud. For the second time in less than an hour, my stomach dropped. It was everything I could do not to turn and choke Christian. How could he do this to me? Quinn is all I have left!

“You prick! How could you do that!? She could be hurt–or worse–she’ll never speak to me again!”

“Beryl…”

“Shut up, just shut up! Isn’t it bad enough it’s your fault I’m like this? Why didn’t you just leave me alone? I would have been fine!”

“Beryl, you really need to listen to reason. This is for the best. She needs to know, and if she means so much to you, then she deserves to know. How long did you expect to keep it from her? What kind of friendship is one built on lies?”

I glared at him. What business did he have making sense?! Couldn’t he see I was raging mad? Men have no sense! None at all! I wanted to ring his neck sooo baaad…

He sighed, “Trust me. The sooner it is done, the better. If she accepts you as you are, then your friendship will last.”

Amidst our arguing, Quinn had made a startling recovery. She stood shakily, looking at us both. I couldn’t speak, the breath was caught in my throat, waiting for her to shout how much she hated me and how I was a monster.

She looked at Christian, “So, a vampire, huh? That’s kinda hot.”

I nearly fainted myself. Good old Quinn…

After having a good laugh, I helped Quinn into the kitchen and made her some coffee and advil. That fall left quite a bump on her head.

“So, yeah… I’m a vampire. And so is Christian… but uh, he wasn’t the vamper… vampee? Whatever. He didn’t do it. He just kinda found me. You’re not upset or scared?”

“Are you kidding? This is great! So do you get any supercool vampire powers? Can you like fly and stuff?”

To tell you the truth, boy was I relieved! It was like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I mean, Quinn is like my best friend since ever… well, not really ever, but long enough. Besides, she was Quinn. You had to like her. It was almost impossible to hate her!

“Well, there are some perks…”

“Oh, oh! Can you bite people for me? I mean, you need to feed anyway, right? So why not do the community a favor by biting those deserving of it! Oooh, this is going to be so great. Ex-boyfriends beware!”
